Voting by mail
Apply early — your application has to arrive, not just be postmarked.
The hard deadline
Your mail-in application must reach your local election officials by 5:00 PM on the 5th business day before the election. Postmarks don't count — it has to be in the office.
Give the mail time
The Postal Service recommends allowing up to 7 days for delivery, so apply as early as you can — especially if your ballot goes out of town.
Aim for 2–3 weeks out
To be sure you receive your ballot with enough time to fill it out and mail it back, apply two to three weeks before Election Day.

Massachusetts offers vote by mail for any reason and weeks of early voting, so there's no reason to sit this one out. Registration closes 10 days before the election, so check your status early.
Vote by mail
Request a ballot online, fill it out at home, and return it by mail or at an official drop box.
Vote early, in person
Visit any designated early voting location in your city or town in the weeks before the election.
Vote on Election Day
Show up at your assigned polling place. You must already be registered — Massachusetts does not offer same-day registration.
